Wood Wins Boxing Day Contest

The Club hosted its traditional Boxing Day handicap race in the grounds of Tonbridge School, with more than one hundred participants starting this year. Organiser Steve Keywood assigned a suitable handicap starting time for each entrant, as they set off to tackle the 4.96 kilometre course, at various intervals.

It was Alice Wood who came home in first place finishing in 22.38, with a two minute handicap and recording her own split time of 20.38.

Wood finished forty seconds clear of George Duggan, who ran the fastest individual time of the day of 14.58, starting off last. Duggan had started 8 minutes and 20 seconds after the first starter. Fraser Gordon was a further five seconds back, having run 17.03, with a  6.20 handicap.

The quickest female individual times came from Nicole Taylor, who clocked 16.58, Maria Heslop in 18.19 and Katie Goodge with 19.02. Robbie Farnham-Rose was the second fastest male athlete with 15.06, with Ben Cole running 15.32.

The distance runners from the Club will be in action at Brands Hatch, in the Kent Cross Country Championships, on Saturday 6th January 2018.
